A glamorous gala night opened the exhibition “70 Years of Italian Genius”, on Sunday 3rd March. The show is on at the Diamond Walk, in Sandton City! Thirty exceptional pieces of garment produced in Italy in the last 70 years will be on display until the 7th April. They are right next to the shop windows of Prada, Armani, Gucci and Salvatore Ferragamo in the mall. The exhibition came to life thanks to the efforts of our partners, the Consulate General of Italy in Johannesburg and the Istituto Italiano di Cultura in Pretoria. The frame is the Italian Fashion Day, which is celebrated worldwide.
The World’s Best Clothes in Johannesburg
If you also love fashion, you can’t miss this! The thirty dresses on display surely make a stunning selection of the world’s finest designs. They are the best pieces by the Fontana sisters, Galitzine, Capucci, Curiel, di Camerino, Pucci, Ferragamo, Scott, Balestra, Moschino, Armani, Versace, Valentino and Ferrè. None less than Lady Diana, Haudrey Hepburn, Claudia Cardinale, Kate Moss and Monica Bellucci wore the unique pieces on show. You can now admire their sublime make and detail while shopping, or bring the whole family for a Sunday stroll in the mall!
Deconstructing Fashion Ahead of South African Fashion Week
“70 Years of Italian Genius” isn’t all about top models and catwalks. The exhibition was an opportunity for international producers and scholars to confront trends and styles. Students of the University of Johannesburg, young local designers and fashion bloggers crowded two conferences on Friday 1st and Monday 4th. The speakers were CUNY (City University of New York) professor Eugenia Paulicelli and South African Fashion Week director Lucilla Booyzens. Without a doubt, the dialogue produced an effervescent meeting of creative minds. Are you ready to see its results at the next edition of South African Fashion Week?
